Airsoft replica troubleshooting guide

If you ordered an airsoft replica from the Oqtagon Airsoft store website and encounter a problem, see the possible causes and follow our recommendations.

What type of operation does the airsoft replica have?

Manual/spring – cocked before each shot

AEG (electric)

Green Gas / CO2

Manual/spring replicas

This section applies to manual airsoft replicas, equipped with a spring system, cocked before each shot. They are cocked using a cocking sleeve/lever, depending on the platform they are made on.

What is the problem with the replica:

  • The replica cannot be cocked using the sleeve/lever (check if the safety is on)

  • The trigger does not work, it pulls in vain (internal parts might be damaged, contact us)

  • The magazine is loaded with BBs, but the replica does not shoot them (check the inner barrel, BB quality, magazine position and compatibility, set hop-up to 0, check cylinder)

  • When removing the magazine, 2-3 BBs fall out (this is normal; when the magazine is inserted, the system releases the first BBs)

  • The replica does not shoot grouped BBs (check BB quality, if BBs are too light trajectory is affected, clean/check inner barrel, check hop-up)

  • The replica is a sniper type, the cocking lever cannot be pulled back, it returns to the initial position without cocking (damaged piston or trigger system, contact us) See What you need to repair/upgrade a sniper?

  • The replica has no compression (damaged piston O-ring, damaged hop-up seal, check their condition)

  • On sniper replicas, the cocking lever cannot be pushed forward to close (unscrewed cylinder head, check its condition)

Airsoft replicas on Green Gas or CO2 capsules

This section applies to Green Gas/CO2 capsule airsoft replicas. Gas replicas have a simple system; the BB propulsion is based on gas pressure.

Green Gas replicas are sensitive to temperatures below 15°C. When gas pressure drops, the replica loses power and does not work properly.

CO2 replicas have higher pressure, but this causes faster wear of plastic and rubber components.

Wear of seals and valves is common and not covered by warranty. It can be repaired by cleaning, lubricating, or replacing them.

What is the problem with the replica:

  • BB feeding issues (check inner barrel, BB quality, magazine compatibility)

  • BBs drop/flying trajectory is short (double cocking, check hop-up position, possibly low gas pressure)

  • When loading gas or screwing capsule, the replica leaks gas (find leaking valve, clean and lubricate)

  • The sleeve does not slide properly, it blocks backward (check recoil seal, it must be lubricated regularly) See Quick repair of KJW M9 blowback airsoft pistol

  • Rapid gas consumption, does not shoot even one magazine (feeding too short, gas pressure too low for the operating temperature)

Electric/Aeg airsoft replicas

This section applies to electric/Aeg airsoft replicas. Electric replicas use a motor powered by a battery.

What is the problem with the airsoft replica?

  • BB feeding issues (check inner barrel, BB quality, magazine compatibility)

  • BBs do not rise from the magazine to the replica (if it is hi-cap it must be loaded over half capacity and fed through the lower wheel) See Why hi-cap magazines?

  • BBs drop/flying trajectory short/shoots left/right (check hop-up position, seal condition, alignment with hop-up chamber) See AEG problems and solutions – BBs fly sideways

  • Replica does not shoot, muffled sound heard (check inner barrel, clean it) See Airsoft weapon maintenance tips

  • Connected the replica to battery and it does not work (battery discharged, charge and retry)

  • Charged battery but replica does not work (contact issues, check safety, wiring on plug and motor, test with another charged battery if possible) See Changing safety on electric airsoft guns

  • Replica makes loud, scraping noises (motor problems, broken gears, broken bearings, contact us) See AEG problems and solutions – Loud, sharp noise when shooting

  • Replica has no compression (damaged hop-up seal or air nozzle, air leaks, check components and compression) See AEG problems and solutions – No compression

  • Hop-up adjustment does not change trajectory (wrong seal, soft/damaged/moved nub, check hop-up system) See AEG problems and solutions – Nonfunctional hop-up

  • Replica jams, does not shoot every BB (incompatible magazine, air nozzle does not retract enough, may need a delayer part) See AEG problems and solutions – Jam

  • Battery, motor, and wiring heat up when trigger is pulled (may need a stronger battery or gearbox stress due to spring, motor, shimming) See AEG problems and solutions – Battery, motor and wiring heat

  • Trigger response delayed, must be pulled fully back (broken/melted contacts, needs replacement)

  • Replica runs continuously when connected to battery (mosfet or contact spring problems, contact us)

If our recommendations do not help you identify and solve your replica's problem, please contact us by phone or email at info@oqtagon.com to explain your issue.

If our operators cannot help you remotely, you must send the replica for service following the steps on the page: Return Policy.
